Sberbank CIB1, the corporate and investment banking business of Sberbank, has financed the construction and commissioning of a new terminal for domestic flights at Gumrak Airport in Volgograd. Sberbank has provided financing for the construction of the terminal since 2017. The terminal was officially opened today.
The new terminal has an area of 9,200 square metres and a handling capacity of 720 passengers per hour. It will service up to 1.5 million passengers per year. Volgograd’s Gumrak Airport is Russia’s 26th largest airport in terms of passenger flow (1 mln people in 2017). The launch of this terminal is very important to Volgograd – one of the host cities of the 2018 World Cup – in terms of infrastructure and logistics.
Sberbank CIB actively participates in major infrastructure projects of both regional and national significance. Over the past year three new airport passenger terminals have been opened with support from Sberbank: in Anapa, Perm and Krasnoyarsk. Kaliningrad Airport is currently preparing to open a new passenger terminal, also financed by Sberbank.
